The North Leicestershire Mountain Club is affiliated to the British Mountaineering Council, the Derbyshire Caving Association and the Ramblers Association, is based in Northern Leicestershire with members from all over England and Wales.

The club has been established over thirty years, and although going through a "regeneration" phase at the moment, our membership is very active.  We have members of all ages who's skills are vast and varied; ranging from highly experienced climbers, cavers and mountaineers, to ramblers and tea shop guides who know all the finest venues in the land!

We meet three times a week for most of the year; on Monday Night for a walk around Charnwood Forest, on Tuesday Night for climbing (either at the Leicester Tower Climbing Centre or at one of Leicestershire's many crags - weather permitting), and again for a pint or two on a Thursday Night (a new venue for which is currently in research, so make sure you know where people will be before turning going out!)

We also have a programme of Meets & Events throughout the year organised by our Meets & Events Coordinators.  These are usually weekends away around the UK to walk, climb or go caving.  We all enjoy camping but during the Winter months tend to organise a couple of weekend meets using club huts or bothys.  We also try to organise an annual meet further afield, in previous years this has taken club members as far as Africa, America and the European Alps.  In 2009 a large group of us travelled to Arco, the sport climbing capital of Italy where we enjoyed over two weeks camping in the hot sunshine of the southern dolomites!

Members benefit from affiliated membership to the BMC, which is now on an individual basis - meaning that you will receive the BMC quarterly summit magazine and have the right to vote at BMC meetings on issues that may interest you.  Your affiliated BMC membership gives you third party liability insurance cover whilst partaking in your mountaineering activities - not just during club activities, but at all other times also.

Members also benefit from discounts at a number of outdoor equipment retailers, we are currently working on a list of preferred suppliers with specific agreements, but in general terms, mentioning in most outdoor sports stores that your club is affiliated to the BMC, Derbyshire Caving or Ramblers Associations will usually attract 5-10% discount.

As a full member of NLMC you will receive first refusal on any space limited club trips and events and regular updates by email, mail or phone about our upcoming activities.

The North Leicestershire Mountain Club is affiliated to the BMC, with each member of the club becoming an associate member.  The BMC (British Mountaineering Council) is the representative body that exists to protect the freedoms and promote the interests of climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers, including ski-mountaineers. The BMC recognises that climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
